Dear Mr. Pitts,
Thank you for contacting me to discuss the importance of financial literacy and how the federal government can improve financial literacy in our communities. Hearing from you helps me better represent Georgia.
First and foremost, I appreciate your efforts and commitment to promoting financial literacy in your community. Grassroots organizations that work to bring financially underserved and underbanked people into the financial system and empower them to build generational wealth are critical to addressing issues of wealth inequity in our community. Know that as your U.S. Senator, I share your commitment to financial literacy, and I will do everything I can in the Senate to promote financial literacy for all Georgians who could benefit from it.
That is why I was proud to cosponsor S.Res.588, A resolution designating April 2022 as “Financial Literacy Month”. I am encouraged to see this resolution be agreed to in the Senate because I believe financial stability is a form of financial freedom that can help thousands of Georgians break the cycle of poverty. As your Senator, I will continue to serve Georgia’s unbanked and help them secure financial stability.
Additionally, I am supportive of the Treasury Department’s Financial Literacy and Education Commission. Congress established this Commission through the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003 to promote a national strategy in both the public and private sectors for policy, practice, research, and coordination to ensure Americans make informed financial decisions. As a member of the Senate Banking Committee and as Chair of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection, I will continue to ensure the Treasury department has the sufficient resources to operate this commission efficiently and effectively.
Finally, if your nonprofit organization is interested in pursuing federal grant funding, please find resources on my website here: https://www.warnock.
Thank you again for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to do so again in the future if I may be of assistance to you or your family.
Sincerely,
Reverend Raphael Warnock
United States Senator
